Michael Miller of PCMag takes the new Toshiba M400 Tablet PC out for a spin.
His impressions? He likes Toshiba’s return to the smaller, 12.1″ display as well as all the included software and finger print scanner. He’s not so keen on where the new rocker button is for scrolling while in portrait mode.
The new M400 weighs in at 4.6lbs which is toward the top end for a notebook that I want to be carrying around wherever I go. But it’s not that bad. I can live with it. (Of course, when I have to carry the Gateway M280 as well as the M400 in my backpack–which I’ve been doing for the last couple trips, I may change my mind.)
The unit he tried in his review only has a single core processor, which might make sense for people that need to be careful with battery consumption, but for developers like me, I’d rather go with the Core Duo.
In fact, I am.
I ordered a Core Duo M400 last Friday and ups.com tells me that it’s supposed to arrive on Monday. I’m not sure I’ll be as skillful at taking shots of the UPS truck arriving with the package, but I’ll do my best to take a few pictures of the M400 when I get it inside and unpacked.
I tried out the M400 at Mix06 for a bit (a demo machine was running Vista) and I’m very eager to make this my #1 Vista development machine. I’m also quite interested to see how responsive apps will be considering the dual core processor.
Yeah, I’d really like the X61 Core Duo Lenovo ThinkPad that’s a pound lighter, but they aren’t available yet. I’m in desperate need of replacing my M200, so I’m going to go with the M400 for now.
