In covering D, ZDNet’s Dan Farber has some photos of the prototype $100-scratch-that-$130 MIT notebook.
Check out Farber’s top photo which is of Walt Mossberg holding up the notebook in what they call the “e-Book” mode or what we’d call “Tablet” mode. In case you’re wondering, although the notebook includes a hinge which allows the display to be twisted around and folded down over the keyboard, there isn’t a touch digitizer built into the display. Instead, a separate touch pad is located next to the keyboard. I’m guessing that the digitizer is kept separate for cost and power reasons. Too bad, because a built-in touch digitizer like those in UMPCs would be a killer feature.
I wonder how long it’ll be before a version of the MIT notebook includes a display with a built in digitizer?
