What people are saying about a possible Tablet Mac?

by LCH on November 27, 2006

Here’s a collection of what people are saying about the latest Mac Tablet rumor:

Robert Scoble: “I can’t wait, cause then all the Tablet naysayers will ooohhh, and aaaahhhh, and praise Steve Jobs for being a visionary.”

JKOnTheRun: “…the Windows based Tablet PC tends to be marketed mainly as a productivity booster, which it is. If Apple dovetails a device similar to what Smarthouse describes with their previously announced iTV entertainment device, their “tablet” could gain traction very quickly.”

Gottabemobile: “The Apple Tablet PC rumors are in full swing again…Bring it on!”

Engadget: “…we’re never ones to take these rumors at face value, but we kind of think this particular rumor is a little overboard on the kind of mid to long-range details that Apple is known to protect at all costs.”

Steve Borsch: “It makes perfect sense that Apple would deliver on a Mac tablet…With ubiquitous WiFi an increasing reality and use of multiple device types growing, the timing would be good.”

CrunchGear: “What would Monday be without another Apple rumor?….Amazing how some people have so much detail from sources and yet, fail to snap a single picture of this supposed prototype that is slated for a mid-year 2007 release.”

GizBuzz: The “trend of Apple going for embedded devices and consumer electronics (the iPhone, the iTV) seems to be an attempt by Apple to move from being an obscure computer company in the eyes of the public to a household name in electronics (but no so much mainstream computing).”

The Unofficial Apple Weblog: “The article went to fairly ridiculous lengths of “accuracy” stating that the tablet was designed for educational and home automation use, worked with a docking station and would use wireless linking to Hi Fi speakers.”

MacRumors: “As a historic note, Apple did work on a tablet form-factor for their Newton (PDA) devices. An unreleased prototype can be seen here.”

ZDNet, Jason O’Grady: “It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of the concept of an Apple tablet. It would be a great machine for commuting, allowing me to keep up with news and email on-the-go.”

Apple Gazette (No link included because the website page have been infected with www.o00o.info. It may redirect your browser!! Beware if you go to this site!) : “Several weeks ago I speculated about an Ultra Portable Mac with a docking station coming soon from Apple. So you can imagine how pleased I was when I saw this post on Mac Rumors this morning.”

Geek.com Mac Section: “I am sure Apple researchers have prototypes of many different devices, so I am not sure that a working prototype means an actual device will be launched.”

The Carrypad UMPC Journal: “The details from today’s story make the device sounds more like a thin client than a tablet PC.”

On Computers Tips: “Nothing is sure, yet. But if Apple really does bring out one of these, I’ll be standing in line for one of the first, even if I have to hock my Mac running Linux to do it.”

InMuscatine: “This would seem to make sense, but then again – Apple has become very good at sewing disinformation of late.”

Laptopblog: “all kinds of rumors are churning out.”

Various and Sundry: “Craziest Mac Rumor Du Jour….Because we’ve all seen how successful Microsoft has been with the Tablet PC. ”

Elton: Inside the mind of a nerd: “This would be a logical next step for Apple’s portable PC line, especially given how well the MacBook and MacBook Pro have sold.”

TabletGear: “Looks like we’re back on the Mac Tablet rumor mill again, and what a ride it is!”

Sounds like many people are skeptical. Problaby for good reason. How long have we been hearing about a rumored Mac Tablet? And let’s not forget that MacWorld is around the corner so the new product rumors are sure to fly.

Nonetheless, as other have suggested it’s fun to speculate. What twist might Apple apply to the Tablet concept? What will the reaction be when–uh, if–it ever hits the market? Will it have more impact on the UMPC or Tablet market? Lots of questions for blogging :-)
