Here's a video you might like that integrates sketching with image retrieval: http://videolectures.net/aaai07_paulson_mmar/ That's out of Tracy Hammond's lab at http://srl.csdl.tamu.edu/. She's done some cool stuff writing a recognition toolkit so users can map gestures of their choice to recognized objects. There’s been a lot of interesting work in sketch recognition.
