Should classrooms have Surface computers?

by LCH on February 13, 2009

This article from getreading.co.uk talks about a pilot program where Churchend Primary is trying out using a Surface computer in the classroom. It’ll be interesting to see what comes of this.

This brings up the broader question of what computing technology makes sense in a classroom. I’m of the mind that devices like the Surface computer and other multi-touch-slash-multi-user are a good move. Whether they are horizontal like the Surface computer or are a large wall-based system, they create new experiences and are worth a try.

For one, they become more social. That’s interesting in itself.

I don’t think the value is all in zooming photos in and out. It’s about creating richer, more valuable experiences that make sense.
